Terms of Use

Last updated: December 2025

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using StudyBot ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

StudyBot is a free, open-source, AI-powered flashcard application that provides:

  • AI-generated flashcards from topics you provide
  • Adaptive learning that generates review cards based on your mistakes
  • Local storage of flashcard decks in your browser
  • Study sessions with progress tracking

The Service is provided as a Progressive Web App (PWA) that can be installed on your device and used offline for studying previously generated content.

3. User Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Use the Service only for lawful, educational purposes
  • Not submit topics that are illegal, harmful, or violate third-party rights
  • Not attempt to abuse, overload, or interfere with the Service
  • Not use the Service to generate content that violates any laws or regulations
  • Verify AI-generated content before relying on it for important purposes
  • Maintain the security of your own device and browser data

4. AI-Generated Content

Accuracy: Flashcard content is generated by artificial intelligence (DeepSeek). While we strive for educational quality, AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or outdated information. You should:

  • Verify important facts from authoritative sources
  • Not rely solely on AI-generated content for exams, professional certifications, or critical decisions
  • Use the content as a study aid, not as a definitive source of truth

Content Ownership: Flashcards generated for your personal use are yours to keep, edit, and use for educational purposes.

5. Data and Storage

Your flashcard data is stored locally in your browser. You are responsible for:

  • Backing up any data you wish to preserve
  • Understanding that clearing browser data will delete your flashcards
  • Recognizing that data does not sync across devices

We are not responsible for data loss resulting from browser actions, device issues, or any other cause.

6. Intellectual Property

Software: StudyBot is open-source software released under the Apache License 2.0. You may view, fork, modify, and distribute the source code in accordance with that license.

Trademarks: The StudyBot name and logo are trademarks. The Apache License does not grant permission to use these trademarks except as required for reasonable attribution.

Your Content: You retain ownership of any original content you create within the Service.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service uses DeepSeek AI for flashcard generation. Your use of features that involve DeepSeek is also subject to their terms of service. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or policies of third-party services.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
  • ACCURACY or RELIABILITY of AI-generated content
  • UNINTERRUPTED or ERROR-FREE operation
  • COMPATIBILITY with your device or browser

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL STUDYBOT, ITS CREATORS, OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Loss of data or flashcard content
  • Academic outcomes or exam results
  • Reliance on inaccurate AI-generated information
  • Inability to access or use the Service
  • Any other damages arising from use of the Service

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless StudyBot and its creators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

11. Modifications

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective when posted. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. Since no account exists, there is nothing to "cancel" — simply stop using StudyBot and clear your browser data if desired.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

15. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and StudyBot regarding use of the Service.
